Accessibility
Jotmatic is built with Apple’s accessibility features in mind, on iPhone and on Mac. Recording, transcripts and notes all happen on your device, so everything below works offline too.

Apple Vision Pro and iPad run the iPhone app, so the iPhone answers apply there.
Recording by voice and without looking
- Siri and Shortcuts. Say “Start recording in Jotmatic”, “Pause Jotmatic”, “Resume Jotmatic”, “Mark this moment in Jotmatic”, “Take a note in Jotmatic” or “Stop recording in Jotmatic”. “Record a meeting with Jotmatic” picks the type.
- Action button and Control Center. Add the Jotmatic record control to start a recording; while one runs, it opens it instead of starting another.
- Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. The Live Activity has Pause, Mark, Note, Photo and Stop. VoiceOver and Voice Control know each button by name (“Tap Stop”, “Tap Mark”).
- Magic Tap. With VoiceOver on, a two-finger double tap pauses or resumes a recording, and plays or pauses a recording you’re listening to.
- Haptics. You feel a tap when a recording starts, pauses, resumes, marks a moment and stops, from the app, Siri, the Action button or Control Center. Five minutes before the 4-hour limit you get a warning, spoken and felt, and the Lock Screen counts down to the stop.
- Announcements. VoiceOver says when a recording starts, pauses (also for a phone call), resumes and is saved, and once when the notes are ready or couldn’t be made.
Keyboard
With a keyboard connected to your iPhone, or on the Mac. Full Keyboard Access and Mac Keyboard Navigation reach every control.
- Anywhere: ⌘R record, ⌘N new note, ⌘F search, ⌘, settings. Hold ⌘ to see them.
- While recording: ⇧⌘P pause or resume, ⇧⌘M mark this moment, ⌥⌘S stop. Esc never stops a recording.
- Listening to a recording: Space play or pause (when you aren’t typing), ⌘← back 15 seconds, ⌘→ forward 30 seconds, ⌘[ and ⌘] previous and next marked moment, ⌘F find in the transcript, ⌘Z undo.
- Reviewing cards: Space shows the answer, 1 again, 2 got it, Esc ends the session.
- Writing a note: ⌘Return saves, Esc cancels.
- Mac: Control-F8 reaches the menu bar panel; ⌘R starts a recording, and the recording shortcuts above work there too.
Captions and transcripts
- Every recording and every imported file gets a transcript, made on your device.
- While you record, live captions show what’s being said (you can turn them off in Settings).
- When you play a recording back, the transcript follows along and highlights the line being spoken. If Closed Captions is on in Settings › Accessibility › Subtitles & Captioning, the transcript opens by itself when playback starts.
- Transcription uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition. The languages it supports on your iPhone are listed in Jotmatic › Languages, and the list grows as Apple adds more.
- If a recording has no transcript, its page says why: the language isn’t supported, the language download hasn’t finished, or no speech was found.
Text size and display
- Text grows with Dynamic Type up to the largest accessibility size. Screens reflow rather than cut words off, and the recording screen stays usable with End and Pause always in reach.
- At large sizes, touch and hold a control that doesn’t grow (the record controls, the Settings mark, the keyboard’s checkmark) to see it bigger with the Large Content Viewer.
- Bold Text makes the headings heavier too.
- Increase Contrast switches to stronger colours in both themes: Fern in light, Midnight in dark. Fields, edges and transcript highlights get clear outlines.
- Dark Mode follows your system setting, including the Live Activity, widgets and the Mac app.
- States never rely on colour alone. Playing, matched and highlighted transcript lines, paused recordings and failed notes each have a symbol or words as well.
- Reduce Motion turns off the pulsing record dot, bouncing buttons, zooming transitions and automatic scrolling. Reduce Transparency makes the player bar and toasts solid.
- Smart Invert leaves photos, the logo and app icon previews as they are.
Photo descriptions
Open a photo you added to a recording and tap Describe. VoiceOver reads your description on the thumbnail and in the photo viewer, with the moment it was taken. Exports don’t include photos yet, so descriptions stay in the app.
Tips
- Recording with VoiceOver: wear headphones so VoiceOver’s speech isn’t picked up by the microphone. While a recording runs, Jotmatic keeps its own announcements short.
- More actions: rows in the library, transcript lines, note lines and the Mark button have more actions in the VoiceOver Actions rotor, or with “Show actions for …” in Voice Control.
- Ticking a task by voice: say “Show actions for” and the task, then “Mark done”.
- Undo: the Undo message stays for 10 seconds, and Undo is also in the ⋯ menu on a recording’s page.
Known limits
- Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, the Live Activity and the Dynamic Island stop growing text at the sizes iOS allows. Their VoiceOver labels are always complete.
- The Mac app doesn’t play recordings, so captions apply to iPhone only.
- Photo descriptions aren’t part of exports yet (October 2026).
- Messages like “Saved to My notes” leave after a few seconds (6 seconds with VoiceOver or Switch Control); they don’t yet wait while VoiceOver is on them (October 2026).
